Race report by Mario Spiteri
The 6th and final rounds of the 1/8th Nitro Offroad Buggy and Truggy 2015 Maltese National Championship were held on Sunday 28th June 2015, at the MMORRC Rinella track. As in the previous round, the weather was warm and the track was quite dry.

In F1 buggy the duel was on from the start between Kyle Spiteri (Team XRAY), the 2012 and 2014 champion, and Dillon Cassar (Team XRAY), the 2013 champion, with both drivers knowing well that the winner of this final round would be the champion for 2015. In qualifying, it was Dillon Cassar who set the pace and won TQ and thus first place on the grid.

In the main final both drivers took off to a good start and by the half way mark, both had established a good lead on the rest of the drivers. During this time, the lead was constantly changing between Kyle and Dillon, and on many occasions it was due to one driver making a mistake and the other taking the advantage. With 10 minutes remaining, a technical issue forced Dillon Cassar to enter the pits. But by the time Dillon re-entered the track, Kyle had built up a considerable amount of laps, which gap was to remain till the end of the race. With this win Kyle Spiteri retained the title he won last year and thus became Malta’s 3X Maltese Buggy Champion. Charles Vassallo (Team XRAY) finished in 3rd place. These placings also reflected the final overall standings.

In F2, the battle for overall placings was intense as well with Luke Attard (Team XRAY), William Mallia and Christopher Agius (Team XRAY) all vying for the top spot. Agius took TQ and held this spot for most of the race until Attard caught up and took the win in this round and overall first place. Third place in this round went to Nathaniel Attard (XRAY). Altough Mallia had to retire early from this race, he still had enough points to finish second overall with Christopher Agius taking the final third overall placing.

In the truggy class, Kyle Spiteri (Team XRAY) took TQ in qualifying. In the main race, Kyle took off to a good start followed by William Mallia. But midway through the race, when Kyle had started building a good lead, the steering servo decided to call it a day, and he had to retire. Mallia took advantage of this and finished in first place followed by Charles Vassallo and Nathaniel Attard. Kyle Spiteri had enough points from the previous rounds to be declared overall Truggy National Champion for 2015 with his XT9. Second overall was William Mallia with Charles Vassallo taking third overall spot.
